A new conference building at the centre of one of the largest organic farms in Britain, designed with low embodied, and in-service energy use. The primary structure uses a modern incarnation of a traditional Cruck Frame. Short lengths of timber, jointed in a manner which allows forces to be transferred though direct bearing, allows this ancient structural form to be reinvented using the materials available in the 21st century whilst maintaining an elegant and ordered form.
 
The use of site excavated chalk to create extensive rammed earth walls helps to tie the building back into the landscape as well as improving the structure's environmental credentials, by reducing embodied energy and increasing the building's thermal mass.
