feature staircases
A pair of timber double-flight feature staircases free-span between isolated landing bridges within the atrium of the new Aardman Animations HQ. The structure of each stair comprises a curved, cranked stringer from laminated birch veneer propped at mid-span by a laser cut steel support frame, its self supported by four stainless steel tension rods and counter-stressed by stainless steel tension cables. The treads take the form of laminated 'leaves' peeled up from the main stringer. The tactile balustrades combine ribbed stainless steel bars with laser-cut, galvanized newel posts and a gently curving oak handrail.
