structural glass engineering
Glass is a material that can be used to facilitate spectacular Architectural schemes and details; the ultimate aim usually being to achieve maximum free transparency and simplicity. The logical epitome of this ideal leads to the integration of the architectural and structural roles both being performed by the glass its self. Glass has the capacity to perform well in direct structural applications provided that it's inherent micro and macroscopic properties are understood and respected. The many design considerations including load duration, support conditions, connection detailing, redundancy, failure mode, glass type, heat treatments, pane construction and laminating mean that an appropriate structural solution is a subtle and refined result that must draw on a deep pool of knowledge and experience.

By utilising a holistic approach, MLDE have designed, engineered and detailed a large number of solutions incorporating structural glass, helping our clients and collaborators to realise the full potential of their aspirations and the material its self.
